It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the peaceful passing of Bertram Milton (Milt) Criddle of the Qu’Appelle Valley on Friday, December 2, 2022, at the age of 83 years.
Milt will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Patricia (Pat) Criddle (nee Craig); his three children, Craig, Terrilee (Derick) and Jamie (Leon); his fourteen grandchildren, Holly (Marcus), Haley (Peter), Heather (Aranya), Jenny, Justin (Lauren), Pretti, Cassitee (Jen), Kelbree (Greg), Taiten, Traeshal, Brooke, Darian (Alex), Jaeleon (Hunter) and Taryn; his eighteen great-grandchildren, Keysean, Kennedy, Landon, Kakisheway, Katarina, Nevaeh, Avyan, Leo, Kalea, Kingsley, Kyland, Kelbree, Draeden, Emma, Alivia, Shae, Ivor and Rhett; his siblings, Cheryl (Jack), Sidney (Dawn), Kevin and Eric (Bev) and their children; a sister-in-law, Carol Warren and a brother-in-law, Bill (Lu Ann) Craig.
He was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth and Greta (nee Eckman); his sister, Lynn, and her husband, Bill; his grandson, Icetin; and a brother-in-law, Jim Warren.
Born in Broadview, Sask., in 1939, Milt was an active outdoorsman and athlete. When he wasn’t on the ice playing or coaching hockey, Milt could be found outside hunting, fishing, playing softball or quading. Milt was also an accomplished bowler and curler.
Milt and Pat were married on August 31, 1963, in Regina, Sask. After relocating to Saskatoon for work, Milt and his family returned to the valley to run the family-owned Sunset Beach Resort. He ended his career running a successful vacuum truck business until his retirement. Milt was always an active member of the community. He was a councillor in the Rural Municipality of Grayson and sat on the board of directors of the Broadview Co-op for many years.
In his later years, Milt enjoyed playing cards with friends, bonfires, gardening and Saskatoon berry-picking in his secret patch. He was well known for his incredible work ethic, as well as his pranks and mischievousness, never shying away from the opportunity to hide behind a door to give his guests a scare! He loved caring for his animals, which always included horses, dogs and cats. Most of all, Milt enjoyed spending time with his family. His pride rested in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Milt’s heart was always in the Qu’Appelle Valley. From the time of his youth up until the day he passed, it is always where he wanted to be. Some of the last words he spoke were “the valley”. Now his memory lives on in the pastures of Criddle Acres and on the shores of Crooked Lake. May he rest in peace.
The interment of his ashes at Cotham Church and a Celebration of Life will take place on July 2, 2023, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cotham Church Restoration Fund.
