It is with great sadness the family is announcing the passing of Irene Schweitzer on Friday, Nov. 5, 2021, at the age of 89 years.
Irene was born on Jan. 17, 1932, in Neudorf, SK, to proud parents Fred and Alwine (Piller) Tressel. Irene had spent the first 85 years of her life in the Neudorf area. This is where she met, fell in love with, and married Harry Schweitzer (predeceased) on Nov. 7, 1951. Harry and Irene were blessed with four children: Greg (Judy – predeceased), children Carrie (Steve) – Hannah, Ryan – Faith; Patti (Eldred), children Jason (Megan) – Emerson and Harrison, Nicole (Brandon), Daniel; Kelly (Karen), children Justin, Dallas (Meagan) – Ava and Grace, Lindsey – Alexander and Lilee; Lori (Trent) and their child, Alyssa. Besides her immediate family, Irene is survived by her sister, Alice Dell and brother Glen (Pat) Tressel and many nieces and nephews.
Irene had multiple jobs consisting of being a waitress, SGI issuer, Sears agent, caterer, janitor and gardener. She was famous for her awesome cabbage rolls. Irene’s many pleasures in life were quilting, fishing, gardening, playing bingo and watching numerous baseball games. The best job in life for her was just being our “Mom”.
After 85 years of living in the Neudorf area, Irene had moved to the Sedley, SK, area and then on to a private care home in Regina, SK.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at the General, Pasqua and Weyburn hospitals, including the doctors, nurses, paramedics and care aides, for their kindness and care.
A private family service was held Friday, Nov. 12, 2021, at Matthews Funeral Home, Melville, with the Rev. D.J. Kim officiating. Honorary pallbearers were all of Irene’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all those whose lives she touched. Interment took place in the Neudorf Cemetery with Ryan Schweitzer, Carrie Mello, Danny Trautman, Nicole Trautman, Alyssa Duesterbeck and Dallas Schweitzer acting as pallbearers.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
In life, we loved you dearly.
In death, we love you still.
In our hearts, you hold a place
No one else ever will.
Our love for you doesn’t just go away,
For you walk beside us every day!
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed, and held so dear!
