It is with sadness that the family of Bertha Johnson of Fort Qu’Appelle, beloved wife of the late William David Johnson, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 14, 2020 at the Echo Lodge Care Home in Fort Qu’Appelle, Sask. at the age of 97, with family by her side.
Bertha was born on Dec. 5, 1923 in the Parkerview District to John and Bertha (nee Beres) Wessing. On Dec. 29, 1951 Bertha was united in marriage to William David Johnson. Bertha and David farmed in the Parkerview District until 1960, and later moved to Fort Qu’Appelle due to David’s health. David passed away in 1977. Bertha being a widow at the age of 51, continued to work at the Fort Qu’Appelle Indian Hospital as a dietary aide until her retirement in 1986.
Bertha loved gardening, and did a tremendous amount of canning. She was a wonderful baker, excellent cook and made delicious cinnamon buns and poppy rolls. Bertha loved to cook and prepare many meals especially for Easter and Christmas and looked forward for her family to be there. Bertha had a great love for dogs and especially her Beagle, Tippy, whom she dearly loved and missed after his passing.
Bertha was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Margaret, Helen, Esther, Mary and Lillian; brothers, John and Joe.
Left to cherish her memory are: daughters, Brenda (Lawrence), Beryle (Jerry); sons, Barry, and Bradley (Judie). Bertha is also survived by grandchildren, Trevor Johnson, Christy Harrick (Tom), Curtis Harrick (Chantel); great-grandchildren,Taryn, Rory, Bronwyn Rushinko, Jayden and Jace Harrick. Bertha was very proud of her family and their accomplishments.
Bertha became a resident of Echo Lodge in Fort Qu’Appelle in February 2018. While being a resident, her family visited her daily. She was very happy and appreciated their visits. She was very happy when her grandchildren visited and shared their life with her.

Due to COVID, cremation has taken place and a private family burial will be at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Teneil Fogg of Conley Funeral Home, Fort Qu’Appelle, Sask.
