Date of Birth: September 29, 1929

Date of Death: August 19, 2025

It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Edward Daku, who left us unexpectedly in his sleep on Tuesday, Aug.19, 2025, at the age of 95 years. A beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, his final beautiful day was spent laughing, joking, making plans for the future with his family, and kissing his beloved wife, Louise, good night, twice.
Edward was born amidst the open skies and wide farm fields of Hazelwood, SK, in 1929 and raised on the family farm where he learned early the value of hard work, patience, and the quiet strength that would become his signature. It was there, on Crocus Hill and among rolling fields, that he met Louise — the girl from the neighbouring farm who would become the love of his life. Together, they built not only a successful farm near his family farm but a legacy of kindness, resilience, and unconditional love.
Edward was a true gentleman in every sense of the word — gracious, humble, and quietly strong. His hands bore the marks of a life spent building, fixing, inventing, and providing for others. Whether he was tending to a broken fence, rigging up a clever solution to a farm problem, or fixing a grandchild’s toy, he always found a way. Resourceful to the core, he tended to his garden, raised chickens, pigs, and cows, and preserved all their home-grown food with gratitude and skill. Some of his grandchildren’s most cherished memories are of him taking them out to help feed and tend to his gentle, friendly, and extremely well cared for cattle. He loved sharing his passions with his family.
He had a deep love for nature, especially the stillness and simplicity of a quiet day spent fishing. Edward could often be found at the lake in his home-built fishing shack, teaching his children and grandchildren the patience and joy of waiting for a catch, while sharing stories that will echo in their hearts for years to come.
Edward’s family was the centre of his world. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Louise, with whom he was deeply proud to have shared 70 married years of laughter, hardship, and joy. He is survived by his son, Derek, his daughter, Deb (Darryl), and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who adored him and looked up to him as a steady, loving presence in their lives.
He was predeceased by multiple siblings, his parents, and his beloved son Doug, whose memories he carried in his heart every day.
Edward’s life was a quiet testament to love, integrity, and devotion. He never sought recognition, but those who knew him will remember his gentle smile, firm handshake, and the way he made everyone feel welcome. In his quiet way, he taught us all how to live — with humility, grace, and deep care for others.
His absence will be deeply felt, but his legacy will live on in the stories shared around wiener roast campfires, in every well-worn tool in the shed, in the sound of water
lapping against a boat, and most of all, in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know him.
Rest easy, you’ve more than earned it.
A funeral will be held at a later date.
Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Edward’s family at www.MHFH.com
