It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Cheryl Reichel on Monday, Jan. 6, 2025, at the age of 57 years. She passed unexpectedly after complications from a severe abdominal infection. Cheryl’s kind and vibrant spirit left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her, and her absence will be deeply felt by all.
Cheryl was born to Larry and Marjorie Reichel on Feb. 16, 1967, in Whitewood, SK. Upon graduating from Whitewood High School in 1985, Cheryl moved to Regina for a short time, eventually moving to Saskatoon and settling into a 28-year role with the City of Saskatoon, Road Maintenance Division. She retired from a long career, moving back to Whitewood in April of 2024.
Cheryl was a beacon of love, warmth and generosity. She lived her life with passion and purpose, always finding joy in life’s simple moments and sharing that joy with those around her. Her love and devotion to family and friends along with her kind heart and laughter will be missed by all who have known her.
Cheryl will be forever cherished by her spouse of 21 years and best friend, Kevin Hackywicz, whose unwavering love was a source of strength and happiness in her life. Cheryl is also survived by her mother, Marjorie; her brother, Darren (Sarah); mother-in-law Marlene; father-in-law Martin; brother-in law Jason; stepson Chance (Brittney); step-grandchildren Kreedence, Daxton and Willow; and her many much-loved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. She was predeceased by her father, Larry Reichel, whose memory she held dear. The love and lessons she carried from him were guiding lights in her journey through life.
Her family and friends will always remember Cheryl for her compassionate heart, her unyielding strength, and her dedication to the game of golf, later representing the
Senior Women’s Saskatchewan Golf team in a national event. Cheryl famously accomplished not one, but two “hole-in-one” shots during her golfing adventures, a feat her family and friends will always remember with pride and admiration.
Cheryl’s legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Though she has left this world too soon, her light will continue to shine through the lives she touched.
A funeral service and celebration of Cheryl’s life will be held in Whitewood, SK, at a later date to be determined. Please see Matthews Funeral Home website for exact dates and times for this service when available.
Arrangements entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Whitewood and Melville.
