Raymond Douglas Shepherd, known to everyone as Doug, was born Oct. 13, 1950, to Raymond and Phyllis Shepherd. Doug passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026, with his loving wife, Debbie, and his daughter by his side.
Doug was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Phyllis; brother David; brother-in-law Gary; and sisters-in-law Sue and Joanne. He is survived by his wife, Debbie; son Stephen (Nicole); daughter Michelle (Tyson); grandchildren Kaitlin (Jared) and Jordon; step-grandkids Miah and Brynnlee; his soon-to-be great-grandson; brothers Keith (Karen), George (Audrey) and Wayne; sisters Sandra (Walter) and Phyllis; and other numerous family members.
Doug was born in Whitewood, SK, and grew up on the family farm just north of Whitewood. He helped out on the family farm while attending school. Growing up in a big family, there was always some kind of mischief he and his siblings would get into. After graduating high school, Doug went to the University of Saskatchewan for an agriculture degree. He returned to Whitewood to work and help on the family farm; he met Debbie shortly after. They married and raised their two children on the family farm before moving into Whitewood in 1999.
Doug always liked to stay busy. He was a parts manager for Massey Ferguson for 22 years and worked park maintenance at Moosomin Lake for 19 years. He also worked as a pest control officer, with a local carpenter, and did odd jobs in his free time.
Doug had a love for gardening, nature and helping others. You could usually find him in one of his many gardens, driving in the country, helping others, taking people to appointments, or at the local coffee shop. Doug had a deep love for his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved helping his granddaughter with gardening tips. He took pride in fishing and hunting with his grandson. Doug was always eager to help them when they needed it.
Doug will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Doug’s life was held Friday, Sept. 4, 2026, at the Whitewood Legion Community Hall with Heather McEwen officiating, Bonnie Velestuk accompanying the hymns, and Kaitlin Roberts providing a tribute. Doug was laid to rest in the Whitewood Cemetery Columbarium with Keith Shepherd acting as urn bearer.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville and Whitewood.
