It is with great sadness that the family of Elsie Elizabeth Howard announces her passing on Friday, April 30, 2021 at the age of 87 years.
She was predeceased by the husband, Tom Howard, of 57 years, on May 6, 2018.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Tom (Joanna), Shelley (Shawn) and Darren (Leana); her grandchildren, Jamie (Cassie), Cameron (Jennifer), Brett (DeeDee), RJ (Emily), Sydney and Tomi-Lyn; and her great-grandchildren, Ife, Alia, Dion and Mylo.
She was born to Hjalmar and Lily Nelson in the Qu’Appelle Valley near Esterhazy, Sask. on May 8, 1933. When Elsie was 12, the family moved to a farm in the St. Luke district in the Whitewood area.
After completing Grade 12, Elsie went to Teachers
College in Moose Jaw, Sask., and received her Teaching Certificate and taught in various schools until she married Tom on Nov. 12, 1960.
They lived in the Whitewood area until they retired, then moved to Maple Creek, Sask. The next move was to High River, Alta., where Shelley and Shawn live. Their last move was to Lethbridge, as a result of the flood in High River, where Tom lives.
Elsie will be lovingly remembered by her sisters, Edna (Regina) and Edith (Medicine Hat). The sisters had a very close relationship and spent many birthdays and holidays together. Singing, accompanied by Elsie on her guitar,
always being a part of it.
Music was always Elsie’s passion. Wherever she lived, she would always play her guitar and sing with senior and church groups.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to all of the staff at both Alberta Rose and Legacy Lodge in Lethbridge, Alta., for the attentiveness and loving care.
A memorial, interment and celebration of love for both Tom and Elsie Howard will be held at our St. Matthews Forrest Farm Church on Sunday, July 11, at 2 p.m.
Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of Tom and Elsie Howard.
