HUBER – Jim Huber passed away at St. Peter’s Hospital, Melville, SK, on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018, at the age of 79 years, with his family by his side.
Jim was born to Eda (nee Lang) and Adolph Huber on Aug. 21, 1939, in Grayson, SK. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church.
On Feb. 16, 1974, Jim married the love of his life, Rose Theriault. Rose and Jim lived a short time in Saskatoon, where their son, Kevin, was born in 1976.
Jim was dedicated to his lifelong mechanical career, taking a transfer to Melville in 1977 to work as a mechanic for the Canadian National Railway; he worked for the CNR for 45 years.
Jim enjoyed the lake, camping, boating, curling, reading and following politics. He loved watching his grandkids play hockey, basketball, volleyball and football. Jim rarely missed watching the Roughriders and enjoyed entertaining family and friends over a drink. Ice cream on a Sunday afternoon was a favourite treat.
Jim enjoyed travelling in the summer with his family to places including Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, British Columbia, the Maritimes, California (Disneyland) and Ontario to see relatives. He loved taking weekend trips with the grandkids to stay in a hotel and visit and found great pleasure in watching the kids play in the swimming pool.
Jim is survived by his wife, Rose; his son, Kevin (Leanne); grandchildren, Zachary, Ty and Olivia; his siblings, Mildred (Ferd) Thiele, Alvin (Marlene) Huber, Audrey (Charlie) Hollinger, Pauline Huber, Eva Chopping, Darryll (Elena) Huber, and Darlene (Cliff) Barr; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Adolph and Eda Huber, and brothers, Gerald and Brian.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church, Melville on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018 with the Rev. Fr. Andrew Sowa, OMI celebrating and Deacon Dave Hudy assisting. Len Gadica provided the music, the cross bearer was Olivia Huber, readers were Gisele Dureau, Laura Thiele and Corrine Sapara and the eulogist was Leanne Huber. Interment followed in St. Henry’s Parish Cemetery with Zachary Huber and Ty Huber acting as urn bearers.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
