On Friday, Sept. 14, 2018, Mardel Florence Schmidt, beloved wife of Elroy Schmidt, passed away at 82 years of age, surrounded by her loved ones in Grenfell, Sask.
Mardel was born Dec. 1, 1935 in Neudorf, Sask. and was the youngest of 10 children.
She was a loving mother and enjoyed spending her early years raising her family in Grenfell and helping with the family business. In later years, she enjoyed gardening, dancing, volunteering, singing and being involved with the church.
Mardel was predeceased by her son, Earl; parents, Martin and Katherine Ulmer; father and mother-in-law, Henry and Mary Schmidt; siblings, Verner Ulmer, Emma Hollinger, Rose Piller, John Ulmer, Edward Ulmer and Violet Schmidt.
She is survived by her husband, Elroy, of nearly 62 years; sons, Tim (Sherry) and Jeff (Lisa); siblings, Oswald Ulmer (Betty), Grace Ulmer, Gladys James (Keith); sister-in-law, Elaine Ulmer; grandchildren, Tracy (Tyler), Kristen, Shakara, Danielle (Trevor), Karli (Eric), Brooklyn; and great-grandchildren, Karver, Asher and Ranger.
A celebration of Mardel’s life was held at the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Grenfell on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018 with Rev. Isaac Lee officiating. The music was led by organist Geraldine Taylor and accompanied by the choir that Mardel had been a member of. Granddaughters, Tracy and Shakara delivered the eulogy, and the scriptures were read by granddaughters, Shakara and Brooklyn. A slide show presentation of Mardel’s life was created by granddaughter, Kristen. A special song, “Missing Angel,” was sung by a friend, Jeannie McGregor. Lunch was provided by the Church Ladies Committee and interment took place in the Grenfell Cemetery.
