Mildred Novakoski, beloved wife of the late Peter Novakoski, of Foothills, AB, passed away on Friday, Jan. 16, 2026, at the age of 95.
Millie was born in Melville, SK, on Dec. 6, 1930. She married the love of her life, Peter, in 1951, and they resided in Acme, AB, in the late 1970s before moving to Foothills, AB, in 2006.
She is survived by her son, Lyall Novakoski (Valerie), daughters, Donna Meyers (Brad), and Gwen Lockwood (Davin); grandchildren, Terry Meyers (Sasha), Laura VanderSpoel (Derin), Tanner Lockwood, and Nathan Lockwood; and her great-grandchildren, Raegan, Vivian, William, Daisy, and Fredrick.
Millie was a light to everyone she encountered. Her charm resonated with young, old, family, and friends alike. You could always count on a colourful conversation, cookies and Jell-O for the kids, snacks for the puppies, cold beer to refresh the worker, and a rye and water for herself.
She will forever inspire with her indelible optimism and inner strength. The warm scents of her hand-kneaded white bread and pierogies healed your heart and filled your belly. Although her memory will live on in recipes to grace future family feasts, we will miss her random calls to check in on how we were doing and her endless appreciation of life.
“GG” lived a healthy and independent life nearly up until the moment of her passing, and she went on to her reward peacefully.
A private graveside service was held on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026, with a memorial get-together planned for this summer.
