Date of Birth: January 23, 1935
Date of Death: September 20, 2026
Margaret was born Jan. 23, 1935, to Jacob and Ottilia (nee Lutz) Goebel on the farm in Neudorf, SK. She was baptized Feb. 11, 1935, and confirmed May 29, 1949, at Christ
Lutheran Church, Neudorf, SK.
Margaret received her education at Piller School. After school, she helped around the family farm, as she had no older brothers; she did many outside chores, as well as ones inside the home. She also helped some neighbours when time permitted.
On Feb. 11, 1956, 21 years after baptism, she was united in marriage to McDonald Rosenthal. This marriage was blessed with two sons, Timothy and Rodney, and four grandsons, Tyler, Randy, Curtis, and Joshua, and she later became grandma to two step-grandchildren, Sarah and Jacob.
Margaret and Donald farmed for the next eight years southeast of Neudorf, SK, working together both in and outside the home. In May 1964, they relocated to Virden, MB, and farmed with Donald’s parents, Edward and Elizabeth Rosenthal, farming for the next two and a half years before returning to Neudorf in the fall of 1967. They purchased a place in town, and Margaret helped her parents and her Aunt Carrie.
Margaret had a big garden, and she did lots of sewing and quilting. One of her hobbies was collecting write-ups and pictures of the royal family; she also enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and baking for her family, mostly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Margaret enjoyed going to the Senior Centre to meet up with friends and neighbours.
Margaret was a member of Christ Lutheran Church all her life and a member of the community hall board for five and a half years. She helped her husband at the rink for three seasons. She was also a member of the Senior Centre for 25 years.
Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Ottilia Goebel; her husband, Donald Rosenthal; brothers Clarence (Lorraine), Bob (Elsie), Herb (Diane), and Don (Shan) Goebel; sisters Alice, Jean, and Eunice; and her in-laws, Edward and Elizabeth Rosenthal, Ed Steingart, Val Rathgeber, and great-niece Sarah.
She leaves to mourn her passing her sons, Tim (Candace) and Rodney (Heather); grandchildren Tyler (Brooklin), Josh (Suzette), Randy (Kaitlyn), Curtis (Amanda), Sarah (Coe), and Jacob (Ashley); great-grandchildren Aileyh, Cabrey, Gideon, Sadie, Scotty, Bryn Lee, and Remi; sisters Thelma Steingart and Susan (Dave) McInnes; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Goebel and Helen Rathgeber; nephews Glen (Eileen) Gabel, Terry (Sandie) Gabel, John Goebel, Russell Goebel, Ian Popowich, Dustin (Tanja) McInnes, and Bruce Rathgeber; nieces Charlotte (Aaron) Sluchenski, Serena Goebel, Lori (Wayne) Gabel Crone, and Amber McInnes; great-nieces and great-nephews Brittany (Ken), Thomas (Kas), Leah (Brad),
Reagon, Colton, Jetta, Anikin, and Angelica; and special friend Grace Armbruster.
Margaret’s funeral service took place Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026 at Matthews Funeral Home, Melville, with the Rev. Vivian Roberts officiating. Organist Gaylene Matthews led the congregation in the hymns. Candace Rosenthal delivered the eulogy, and the readings were done by Serena Goebel. Interment took place in Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Neudorf, SK, with Glenn Gabel, Bruce Rathgeber, Aaron Sluchenski, Charlotte Sluchenski, Randy Rosenthal, and Josh Rosenthal acting as pallbearers.
