Date of Death: September 16, 2026
Paul Cherkas of Yorkton, SK passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2026. Paul was born Feb. 3, 1947 at the family farm in the Poplar Point District, south of Kamsack. He was the youngest of five sons born to William (Bill) and Katherine Cherkas.
At the young age of 11 “he was put on the tractor seat” after the passing of his father in 1958. He had a passion for all things farming! The fall of 2025 he completed his 67th Crop Year. Then on Dec. 1, 2025 he began his new phase of his farming career, as he said he was being “paid to be a farmer.”
Paul Cherkas left behind a legacy shaped by hard work, genuine kindness, a belief of honesty, and a deep respect for the land. His life was not measured by his farming achievements, rather the work he accomplished and the many lives that were impacted along his way.
The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Mary’s Cultural Centre, Yorkton, SK. As tribute to Paul please consider wearing a plaid shirt, and your best blue jeans. The interment will follow in the Garden of Gethsemane, Yorkton Memorial Gardens.
