Date of Death: July 15, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Doris Bancarz. Doris entered her eternal rest on Monday, July 15, 2024, at the age of 88.
Doris was born on July 26, 1935, the daughter of Louis and Minnie (nee Mohr) Litzenberger, on the farm in the Melville district. She was baptized on Aug. 10, 1935, and was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Fenwood.
Doris received her education at Alkerton and Colmer schools. After completing school, she helped her parents on the family farm at Colmer. Doris enjoyed life on the farm and was an avid outdoors person. Camping, bird watching and horse shows were her favourite pastimes.
On July 9, 1957, Doris married Stan Bancarz at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Melville. In 1970 they were blessed by the birth of their son, Trevor, who brought her much happiness and, in later years, was a steadfast and loving caregiver to her.
Doris did housekeeping for a number of ladies in the area while on the farm, and also in Melville, always willing to help out in whatever way she could. In 1983 she started working at St. Paul Lutheran Home in the housekeeping department, where she was employed for 18 years.
As a family, Doris, Stan and Trevor were always active members at Good Shepherd Lutheran hurch. Doris served on the catering committee for 25 years, receiving a plaque of thanks from the congregation. She also served on Altar Guild, as well as being a Sunday school teacher, Women of the Church member, and worked with the Youth Bowling Council, as well as many Lions Club functions.
Doris enjoyed being with people, and they were always welcome at her home. She enjoyed bowling for many years and taking family trips to visit relatives in BC, California and Montana. In later years, she made five trips to the Scandinavian Hostfest in Minot, North Dakota, with friends, meeting people like Kevin Costner (who was filming “Dances with Wolves” at the time). She always made sure to do some shopping, coming home with at least one set of earrings.
In 2010 Doris moved to Queen Street Manor and enjoyed meeting many old and new friends, taking part in many different activities and making the early morning coffee for the group for nine years.
Doris leaves to mourn her passing her son, Trevor, and his wife, Melissa (nee Hanowski), of Melville; step-grandchildren Nole and Declan of Ituna, Willow of Yorkton and Amelia of Regina; step-great-grandson Arizen of Yorkton; brother Jerry (Sandy) Litzenberger of Melville, their
children Debbie (Bernie) Dales of Melville and their children, Mitchell and Janelle of Saskatoon, and Jeff (Shannon) Litzenberger of Humboldt and their children, Marci and Dorian; many nieces, nephews and cousins, along with her many coffee-row friends. Doris was predeceased by her husband, Stan, parents Louis and Minnie, and all her brothers- and sisters-in-law.
The funeral service was held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Melville, on Monday, July 22, 2024, with Pastor Ron Shumba presiding. Interment took place at the Melville Municipal Cemetery with Jeff Litzenberger as the urn bearer.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
