It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Leslie Ludwig Bender on Monday, Nov. 13, 2023 at the age of 93 years. Leslie was born in Neudorf, Sask. Dec. 6, 1929 to Jacob and Margaret Bender (nee Schmidt).
Les is predeceased by his loving wife Mavis; parents Jacob and Margaret Bender; brothers Stan Bender, Ernie (Clara) Bender,
Gus (Winnie) Bender, Rob (Lorraine) Bender; sisters Sophie (Gottlieb) Weger and Annie (Herman) Hoffman; and grandson Elliott.
He leaves to mourn Leslie Ann, (Shelbey, Jeff, Brooks, Natasha), (Mark and Erin). Kim (Cathy), (Alex and Charlee), Nicole (Cole) Rylee. Perry (Linda) Ryan. Gina (Eric (Madison, Kasey), Jeremy (Hadley, Paige, Aida), Dianna). Gayle (Murray), Brian (Sandi) Kelsey (Ava,
Braelyn) Karlee. A number of nieces and nephews and sister-in-law Martha Bender.
Les was born and raised in Neudorf, Sask., he worked as a cab driver in Regina for a number of years, as a butcher at Fuhrman’s Meats. He met Mavis in 1956 and they married Aug. 21, 1957. He then moved back home to help with the farm, of which he also farmed with his brother Gus.
He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, baseball, hockey, curling and horses. In 1965 he decided that he wanted to open up an auction mart at that time we moved to Melville to pursue that.
After the auction mart burned down, he started operating the auction service out of the house and started having land sales, it grew from there.
He then opened up an auction school that ran for approximately five years. After a time, he started selling antique tractors overseas, he was especially keen on John Deere tractors, he would buy fix and sell them.
A memorial service was held Saturday Nov. 18, 2023 at Christ Lutheran Church in Neudorf at 1 p.m. with Deacon Kevin Prouten officiating. The interment followed at Zion Lutheran Cemetery with Jack Bender and Larry Bender as the urn bearers and all of the grandchildren were honorary pallbearers.
Memorials in memory of Leslie Bender may be made to the Activity Dept. of St. Paul Lutheran Home and Zion Lutheran Cemetery as gifts of remembrance.
Arrangements were by Bailey’s Funeral and Cremation Care, Melville.
