Date of Death: June 26, 2023

Marie loved the people she shared stories and laughter with as she expertly styled their hair. She loved evenings at the lake and her circle of friends. Above all, she loved her husband and family most passionately. It is with profound sadness that her family shares that she unexpectedly passed away on Monday, June 26, 2023.
Marie was born to Helen and Gustav Fuhr in Langenburg, SK, on July 17, 1944, the youngest of five children. She was raised on the family farm near Langenburg and went to school in town. It was there that she met the love of her life, Edwin Welke. They were married in 1963 and lovingly celebrated 59 anniversaries. Marie and Ed raised two children, Paula and Jeff, primarily in Melville, SK.
Marie was an entrepreneur, managing and owning businesses, including a hair salon, a motel and a clothing store. She loved interacting with people. She loved a good story, had a sharp wit and keen sense of style. Marie was a community builder, volunteering with her friends on Beta Sigma Phi and with the Melville and District Quilters Guild. She was most proud of the work Beta and the Quilters Guild did for charity and those in need.
Marie lived on her own terms, was strong in her beliefs, and her most cherished role was grandmother to her three grandchildren. It was at Crooked Lake, where she and Ed lived for 22 years, that she spent wonderful times with Christopher, Ashley and Logan, and the rest of the family.
Marie leaves to celebrate her life: husband Ed; daughter Paula (Lyndon) and her children, Ashley and Logan; son Jeff (Delaine) and his son Christopher; her brothers, Leo (Joanne) Fuhr and Edwin (Karen) Fuhr; brother-in-law Ken Mund; sister-in-law Marlene (Archie) Miller; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Helen and Gustav Fuhr; her mother-in-law Frieda and father-in-law August Welke; her infant brother, Gerhard Fuhr; sister Ruth and brother-in-law Carl Zorn; sister Anetta Mund; sister-in-law Arla and brother-in-law Martin Welke.
Marie’s funeral service was held on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Melville, with the Rev. Ronald Shumba officiating. Music was provided by Marilyn Senyk, Gwen Hudy read the eulogy, Gail Mund and Jonathan Fuhr offered readings, and grandchildren Christopher, Ashley and Logan were the urn bearers.
Interment took place in Melville City Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
