Armed RCMP officers stand outside a motel in Melville following a shooting death this morning. Two suspects are at large and their direction of travel and location is unknown. (Jacob Miller | Grasslands News).

The Dangerous Person Alert issued in relation to a homicide that occurred in Melville, SK, has been cancelled.

We can confirm that one adult male is deceased and another adult male has sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of a shooting that occurred in the area of the Country Inn Motel in Melville. The injured male has been taken to hospital for treatment. Police immediately responded to the area following reports of shots fired. The first report came in at approximately 9:19 a.m. this morning.

Initial investigation has determined that this incident is not believed to be random in nature. As such, there is not a heightened risk to the general public at this time. Should that change, the Saskatchewan RCMP will notify the public immediately.

There will continue to be an increased police presence in Melville and on roadways in and around the community as the investigation unfolds. The Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit has taken carriage of the investigation with support from other specialized RCMP units, as well as RCMP Detachments from the surrounding areas.

Saskatchewan residents are asked to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to police. In an emergency, always call 911. Any tips or information relating to this incident should be reported to police immediately – this includes thefts of vehicles.

RCMP said additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
