Date of Birth: June 18, 1950

Date of Death: April 21, 2022

Alexandria Hnatiuk of Goodeve, widow of the late Terry Hnatiuk, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at St. Paul Lutheran Home, Melville, at the age of 71 years.
Alexandria was born at Melville, SK, on July 18, 1950, daughter of Mike and Mary (nee Zinko) Artymovich of the Goodeve district. She started her schooling at Stryj School and was later transferred to Hubbard, then Goodeve. Her education came to a halt in Grade 11 at Ituna High School in January of 1968, at which time Alexandria was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The illness hit her hard, but, as she often said, “it could have been a lot worse”. As a result, Alexandria was confined to a wheelchair from day one of her diagnosis to the time of her passing.
Alexandria was married to Terry Hnatiuk on June 29, 1974, at Goodeve, SK. The marriage was short-lived, however; Terry passed away 13 years later following a 5-year battle with cancer.
Alexandria will be best remembered for her tell-it-like-it-is attitude. If you deserved praise, you got it; if you deserved a down-grade, you got that, too. She was admired by many for her tidy and spotless housekeeping, as well as her organizational manner. Alexandria enjoyed the simple things in life – a puppy asleep on her lap, a long, winding car ride in the country, or having some good reading material. She was very proud of her Ukrainian heritage and especially enjoyed Ukrainian music. She’d often say that one way to unwind after a stressful day was to put on some Ukrainian music. Her favourite pastime was reading.
Public opinion sometimes made Alexandria furious regarding comments made that life was easy for her. “Everyone should spend a full 24 hours out of their lifetime in a wheelchair – you would then realize how easy it is”, Alexandria would say. “Then judge.”
Predeceased by her parents, Mike and Mary Artymovich, both in 1982, and her husband, Terry Hnatiuk in 1987,
Alexandria leaves to cherish her memory her devoted companion, Mike Kowalchuk of Goodeve; and one brother,
Archie (Marj) Artymovich of Kindersley.
Alexandria’s funeral service was held Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at Matthews Funeral Home, Melville, with the Rev. Fr. Basil Malowany officiating, with Jean Dales as Cantor. The eulogy was presented by Angela Yanush. Pallbearers were Marlene Muzyka, Bev Pilipow, Sharon Provo, Angela Yanush, Petrunia Olson and Beverly Chandler. Interment took place in Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery near Fenwood.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
