It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mabel Meikle, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, SK., at the age of 98 years.
Mabel was predeceased by her parents, Lilian and Fred Elkington; her siblings: Lucy, Everett, Joyce and Howard; her husband, Jack Sawyer, of 49 years; and her sons, Calvin (Cheryl) and Jimmy. She was also predeceased by husbands, Jim
Hillhouse and Keith Meikle; and other members of her extended families.
Mabel will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her daughters, Dianne (Dave) Kashmere and Valerie (Ron) McFarlane, both of White City, SK.; her grandchildren, Jodi Kashmere (Robert McEwan), Brett Kashmere (Astria Suparak), Stacey Kashmere (Matt Dejong), Ryan (Charmaine) McFarlane, Chad (Lesley) McFarlane, and Derek McFarlane; her great-grandchildren, Dagan and Kaden Dejong, Heidi and Ethan McFarlane, and Bailey, Jaxson and Jayme McFarlane; as well as nieces, nephews and long time friends.
Mabel, with her husband Jack, farmed the Sawyer homestead at Langbank, SK., for 29 years before moving to the nearby town of Kipling in 1971, where she lived for 48 years and worked at the Kipling bakery and then Balfour Drugstore until her retirement. Mabel and Jack had a great love of dancing and attended many dances in the community. Mabel enjoyed baking and gardening and was well known for her amazing pies and endless supply of garden produce.
Mabel was an active member of the United Church at both Langbank and Kipling and sang in the church choir, as well as with the 60 Plus Singers. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Kipling Hospital Guild.
A private graveside service will be held in Kennedy Cemetery with officiant Marlene Tarr. A public funeral service will be held at a later date in the Kipling United Church.
