On Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022, Doreen Mary (Street) Westcott passed away at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina at the age of 97, surrounded by family.
Doreen was born Dec. 13, 1924 to Edwin and Ethel (Pratt) Street, in the Poplar Grove District south of Whitewood, Sask. On Oct. 17, 1942 she married Leonard Morris Westcott in St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Whitewood.
She is predeceased by her parents, Ed and Ethel; brothers, Richard M and Allen; her husband Leonard; daughters, Patricia Picciano and Colleen Westcott; and son Blaine.
She is survived by her son, Ross (Jennifer); and grandchildren, Jayme, David, Cameron, Suzanne, Kate, Jack, Christopher (Carole); great-grandchildren, Kristina, Daniel, Alexander, Erik, Brooklynne, Abi, Shyeanne; and great-great-grandchildren, Leah and Branson; sister-in-law Doris;l and nieces, nephews and several cousins.
Doreen was a wife, homemaker, mother and grandmother, and throughout the years she was employed at the Whitewood Telephone Co., Whitewood Co-op, Wright’s Pharmacy and the Whitewood Hospital.
Doreen had many interests which included St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Whitewood where she served as People’s Warden, Rector’s warden, vestry member, Anglican Church Women, the altar guild and as lay communion administrator. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star being the Worthy Matron in 1967. Doreen was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary #87. In addition, she was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #87; Anglican Lutheran Ecumenical Community; Whitewood History Book Committee; New Democratic Party; Council of Canadians; Pleasant Company Singers; Communities in Bloom; Citizens on Patrol; Meals on Wheels.
Doreen requested no flowers and in lieu of flowers a donation, if desired, can be given to St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Whitewood, or to SOS Children’s Villages or a children’s charity of your choice; or the Heart and Stroke Foundation; or the Canadian Liver Association.
One of Doreen’s favorite quotes was: “Death is a going home. It is a door into the larger life and into the greater glory; where the wounded of life are healed and the tears of life are dried and broken hearts are mended with the balm of Gilead, given by the great physician there.” – unknown
