With peace and love in our hearts, we announce that Edith Maccan passed away with family by her side on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021, at the age of 91 years.
Edith’s legacy will live on through the memories of the many generations of family whose lives were touched by her: son Brian Maccan (Dianne Volk); daughter Deb (Henry) Ward; 5 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister Dianne (Denton) of Kelowna; sisters-in-law Helen and Betty of Ontario; brother-in-law Dennis of Victoria; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Edith was predeceased by her husband and best friend, Edwin; her parents, Jonas and Evelina (Pearson) Swanberg; brothers Peter and Carl; and nephews Richard and David.
Edith was born in the Success School district north of Melville on Jan. 26, 1930. She received her education at Success School.
Edith is remembered for her years working at Hegan’s Drug Store in Melville and as secretary at Grant Schmidt’s MLA Office; she had lots of good memories of working and fondly remembered the people with whom she worked. Her hobbies included art (she painted many beautiful pictures and enjoyed wood carving), politics and travel.
Edith’s greatest joy was family, and she spent many hours with the young ones; she always said that being around young people kept her young at heart. She will be very missed by family and friends.
Due to Covid-19 concerns, the family will gather to celebrate her life at a later date.
