Around 11 p.m. on August 7, 2021, Broadview, Esterhazy and Moosomin RCMP officers responded to a complaint of an injured person in a vehicle at a business in the Cowessess First Nation. The male youth was pronounced deceased by EMS at the scene.

The deceased has been identified as a male youth (under the age of 16) from the Cowessess First Nation. His family has been notified and RCMP will not be releasing his name at this time. 

Initial investigation has revealed the male was transported to that location and sustained injuries elsewhere. There is also a police presence at a residence in Zagime Anishinabek in relation to this incident. Yorkton and Regina RCMP General Investigation Services and RCMP Major Crime Unit-North continue to investigate the circumstances of his death. Yorkton RCMP Forensic Identification Services is also assisting in the investigation.
