Rose Novak (nee Hickie) passed away peacefully at St. Peter’s Hospital, Melville, on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2020, at the age of 98 years.
Rose was born on a farm by Grayson, SK, on March 4, 1922, to the late John and Rosalie (nee Bear) Hickie. Rose attended Flegel School by Grayson, where she completed Grade 8.
August 1944 is when Rose married the love of her life, George Novak, and they resided in Waldron, SK. Rose worked at the Waldron schools as a caretaker and also helped her husband, George, at the Waldron post office. They ended up having four beautiful children, Sandra, Agnes, Robert and Sheila. In 1987 Rose and George moved to Melville to make life a little easier on them.
Rose was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Agnes, Betty and Ann; and her brothers, John, Mike, George, Alois and Joe. She is survived by her sister, Mary Exner, of Regina, SK.
Rose’s love for her family will be remembered by her children, Sandra (Bill) Moncur; Agnes (Ernest) Kormos and their children, Rene Kormos (Bruce Butler), Jennifer (Matty) Stelmachowich and their daughter, Tori; Robert (Diane) Novack and their son, Matthew (Kristen) Novack and their children, Beckham, Kiefer and Harlow; and Sheila (Gary) Beeton.
Even with her passing, Rose will still be with us. All you have to do is look at nature and all the beautiful birds around us as she did many times herself.
A graveside service was held for Rose at St. Henry’s Parish Cemetery, Melville, on Tuesday, Sept.1, 2020, with the Rev. Fr. Andrew Sowa, OMI officiating. Jennifer Stelmachowich shared memories on behalf of the family, and the pallbearers were Jennifer Stelmachowich, Tori Stelmachowich, Matty Stelmachowich, Matthew Novack, Kristen Novack and Herb Exner.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville and Whitewood.
