Date of Birth: November 25, 1956
Date of Death: June 3, 2019
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ken Petlock on Monday, June 3, 2019, at the age of 62 years.
Ken was born to Ednot and Rose Petlock on the family farm near Fenwood, Sask. on Nov. 25, 1956. He grew up farming with his dad, eventually taking over the family farm. During this time, Ken met the love of his life, Della Reves, whom he married on June 2, 1978. They enjoyed concerts, gardening and travelling together and just celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary the day before he passed.
Ken enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. They were the centre of his world, and he had all of the love in the world for them. He always took the time to teach them practical things and always made them laugh with his “grandpa jokes” and little notes he would write to them.
Aside from the farm, Ken became a councillor with the RM of Stanley No. 215. He was elected reeve in 2006 and remained reeve until his passing. Ken took pride in his work with the RM and was known as the local weatherman, still predicting the weather in the old ways like tracking hoarfrost to predict when it would rain.
Ken will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Della; their three daughters, Avery (Rob) Bear, Melissa (Chris) Bryson and Amy Petlock; grandchildren, Sarah, Kadence, Ethan, Ashten, Logan, Birdie and Ryker; as well as extended family and anyone who knew him.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ednot and Rose Petlock; his in-laws, Albert and Matilda Reves; and his brother, Dennis Petlock.
The family would like to thank Dr. Eshawesh, the staff at St. Peter’s Hospital and STARS for all of their efforts and compassion. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to STARS Air Ambulance.
Ken’s funeral service was held Monday, June 10, 2019 at Matthews Funeral Home, Melville, with the Rev. Fr. Andrew Sowa, OMI presiding. Len Gadica led the music, Amy Petlock read scripture, and a tribute was presented by Kadence Pilot. All who knew and loved Ken were considered honorary bearers, and the urn bearer was Ethan Petlock.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
