LANG – Martin Lang passed away in the early hours of Monday, Nov. 5, 2018 at St. Peter’s Hospital at the age of 90 years.
Martin was born in the Killaly district Feb. 14, 1928 to Anton and Appolonia (Paidel) Lang. He was baptized at Grayson, Sask., and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Neudorf, Sask. Martin attended Stella School in the Waldron district and received a Grade 6 education.
In Martin’s younger years, he stooked for nine days at $1.10 a day. In 1952 he worked on the CN on the Cana Railroad and farmed in the Waldron district until 1953. In 1954 he worked on the pipeline and then moved to Neudorf and continued farming there until 1988, when he retired and moved into the village of Neudorf. He would still take drives out to the farm every day to pass his time.
Martin enjoyed playing cards, especially Hearts, on his laptop computer. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing pool. He became quite a pool shark, winning many trophies.
Martin married Katie Kraushaar on Oct. 30, 1952, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Neudorf. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Marlene and Randy.
Martin started playing the button accordion at a very young age. He played for barn dances, weddings, house parties and even for his 80th birthday.
He was admitted to St. Paul Lutheran Home in November 2017.
Martin was predeceased by his parents, Anton and Appolonia; one brother in infancy; wife Katie; son-in-law, David Erick; brothers, Frank and Kasper; and sisters, Annie, Rose, Mary and Eda.
He leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Marlene; son, Randy; brother, Bill; five grandchildren, Garrett (Kristen), Daris, Todd (Michelle), Carrie, Julie (Allan); five great-grandchildren, Kyla, Kalika, Matthew, Nicole and Graysen; great-great-grandchild, Zyler; and five godchildren.
Martin’s funeral service was held Sat., Nov. 10, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church, Melville,
with Rev. John Nieminen presiding. Organist Darren Kitsch led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, “Just as I Am, Without One Plea,” “Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me” and “Amazing Grace.” The choir sang as an anthem, “Lord Take My Hand and Lead Me.”
Interment took place at the Neudorf Village Cemetery with Marlene Erick and Randy Lang acting as urn bearers.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville
