GRAFF – Alvena “Winnie” Graff of the St. Paul Lutheran Home in Melville widow of the late Leo Gerald Graff, passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the age of 98 years.
Winnie was born on Dec. 9, 1919 at Shevilin, MB to Reinhold and Katherine (nee Schappert) Edel.
Winnie, as she was known to all, received her education at the Grain Field School. She worked for various farmers in the area until she was united in marriage to Leo Gerald Graff on Jan. 31, 1942. That same year the couple moved to Melville.
Winnie was a stay at home mom looking after their two children, Geraldine and Garry.
Winnie enjoyed visiting with relatives and friends, gardening, growing flowers, fishing, knitting, crocheting, watching the Blue Jays play, travelling and shopping. Most of all she loved having her grandchildren and great-grandchildren come and visit.
In 2010 Winnie became a resident at St. Paul Lutheran Home in Melville.
Winnie was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Gerry in 1999; her parents, Reinhold and Katherine; brothers, John Edel and Phillip Edel; sisters, Margaret (Bill) Marzoff, Hilda Edel, Anne (Ray) Hetter, Elsie (Mike) Hetter; and Martha (Fred) Graff; in-laws, Ted (Margaret) Graff, Dave (Eunice) Groff, Henry (Ruth) Stoll, Gus (Mary) Yathon, George (Winnie) Goebel, Emma Graff and Albert Porrant.
Winnie leaves to cherish her memory her two children, Geraldine (Gus) Mocknowed; and Garry (Rosanne) Groff; grandchildren, Donna (Heinz) Pinno, Scott (Meriel) Mocknowed, Krista (Terry) Davis, Ian (Amanda) Groff and Shane (Meghan) Groff; great-grandchildren, Chantelle (Devin) Sawka, Jordan, Meaghan and Kalei Pinno, Mitchell and Kayla Davis, Cole and Mason Groff, Sullivan and Elizabeth Groff; great-great-grandchildren, Maddix Sawka, and Serenity Davis; brothers, Rudy (Elaine) Edel, Gerhardt (Violet) Edel and Ewalt Edel; sisters, Pearl Porrant, Esther (John) Resch; in-laws, Lois Edel.and Alma Edel, Robert (Grace) Graff and Alvin (Janice) Graff; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Bailey’s Funeral Home in Melville with Rev. Brian Mee officiating.
Arrangements were by Bailey’s Funeral Home, Melville.
