Born March 4, 1942, in Osage, Sask. She entered into eternal peace with her family at her side on Monday, April 30, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Home in Melville at the age of 76 years.
Helen lived on a farm 20 miles from Osage, Sask. Her family then moved to Sintaluta where she began school at age five. Before Helen began her high school years, her family moved to Regina where she attended St. Augustine School and Balfour Collegiate High School. Following high school, she began working at Sears, where she worked for approximately eight years.
Helen met Robert Fuchs in Regina in 1959 and fell in love. They married July 12, 1961 in Regina.
Helen and Bob had their first child, Dennis in 1964; Kim’s birth followed in 1966. Following the birth of Kim, the family lived in Grayson, Esterhazy and Rocanville before finally settling in Esterhazy in 1975. While living in Esterhazy, Helen opened a nursery school with her good friend Dean which they ran together for many years. Helen was involved in her children’s activities and never hesitated to volunteer for committees.
Helen had many activities that kept her busy such as ceramics, embroidery, reading and spending time with her grandchildren. She lived in Esterhazy with Bob until they retired to Crooked Lake. Helen loved the lake and spent many happy occasions with family and friends. She and Bob then moved into Melville following the loss of their home at Crooked Lake in 2011.
Helen was predeceased by her parents, Elizabeth (Moser) and John Schaefer; sisters, Lena Schaeffer, Barbara Schick and Mary Sebastian; brothers-in-law, Arnold Schaeffer, Ed Schick, Adam Sebastian, Carl Markel, Joe Bogdan, Wayne Kohlenberg, Wilfred Fuchs and Rodney Fuchs; sisters-in-law, Mary Fuchs and Audrey Fuchs; and great-granddaughter, Leandra Gunn.
Helen leaves to mourn her passing: husband, Robert Fuchs; son, Dennis (Susan) Fuchs; daughter, Kim (Darcy) Bucsis; grandchildren, Lance (Chelsey) Stradeski, Tristan Stradeski, Shane (Jen) Bucsis and Sara (Jerry) Gunn; great-grandchildren, Salem Fullam, Molly Gunn and Lucy Bucsis; sister, Margaret Markel; sisters-in-law, Matilda Bogdan and Lucille Kohlenberg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In celebration of Helen’s life, a vigil service was held Thursday, May 3, 2018, at Mathews Funeral Home, Melville.
Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Friday, May 4, 2018, at St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church, Melville, with the Rev. Fr. Andrew Sowa, OMI, celebrating. The music was led by Leonard Gadica, and the scriptures were read by Dale Bogdan and Carissa Nye. All in
attendance were considered honorary pallbearers, and the urn bearer was Lance Stradeski. At the reception following the mass, Randy Bogdan presented the eulogy. Donations in memory of Helen can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
