NEULS – James (Jim), passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018 at the age of 88 years.
He was predeceased by his wife, Helen; parents, Sigmund (Sid) and Caroline; brothers, Philippe, John, William; and sisters, Alice Neuls and Helen Hucul; in-laws, William and Hilda Schofer; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leo Mass, Emil Schofer, Ted Schofer, Mike Hucul and Fern Neuls.
Jim was born March 6, 1929 in Melville to Sid and Caroline (Mann) Neuls. He attended school in Melville and worked at Swifts. He left home and headed to the Atlantic coast where he worked on a cruise ship. He then moved to Vancouver, B.C., joined the Merchant Marines and worked on ships along the Pacific Coast. When his mother became ill, Jim returned to Melville and began his 37-year career with the CNR.
He met the love of his life. Helen Schofer. and they were married on March 15, 1955 and were blessed with three children. Jim loved to build and created numerous projects over the years. He also built the cabin at Crooked Lake and the family home in Melville.
Jim and Helen embarked on many exciting travel adventures throughout their marriage. They spent their summers at Crooked Lake and loved gardening, growing flowers and especially spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed watching sports and always had fun attending the Millionaires games with Jim Brock and Lief Sorensen.
Jim was a kind and generous man and donated to many charities. He was recently honoured with having his name placed on the Wall of Honour for his contributions at the Regina Health District.
He was a devoted caregiver to Helen throughout her courageous battle with cancer until her passing in 2005.
Jim will be lovingly remembered by his son, Clinton (Cathy) and children, Jessica (Jared) Alder, Katelyn (Chris Grimes-Goard); daughter, Christine (Leonard) Lester and children, James (Tara) Lester, Jordan, (Kristina) Lester, Johanna (Adam) Trudel; daughter, Stephanie (Rob) Mohr and children Devon and Emerson. Great-grandchildren, Erica, Ian, Jack, Cate, Mikaela and Madeline; brothers and sisters-in-law, Elsie Mass (Dennis), Iris Schofer, Bill (Hilda) Brown, Willa Schofer, Edward (Judy) Schofer, Alfred (Helen) Schofer, Ozzie (Terri) Mueller, Ken (Lil) Scott, Lenard (Marcia) Schofer, Clare (Shelly) Schofer; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018 from the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Melville with Pastor Doug Schmirler officiating.
Arrangements were by Bailey’s Funeral and Cremation Services, Melville.
