Steve Kuzub of Whitewood, SK passed away Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017 at the age of 87 years, 11 months, 24 days.
Steve was born in Foam Lake, SK on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 1929 to Elias and Waselka (Hluffman) Kuzub.
As a young man he worked in Ontario where he met Velma Hatvaney, and they were married in Velma’s home town of Whitewood, SK in Nov. 9, 1950. The couple farmed her father’s original homestead for over 50 years, then retired to Whitewood.
Steve was predeceased by his parents; an infant daughter, Shirley; his parents-in-law, Frank and Helen Hatvaney; brothers, John, Alex, Willie and Peter; sisters, Mary, Doreen, Carrie and Winnie; brothers-in-law, Ed, Fred H., Leonard, Nick, Franky and Fred A.; and sisters-in-law, Stella, Kaye, Alice and Meriel.
He is survived by his wife, Velma; three sons, Bill (Debbie), Danny and Darwin (Kelly); a daughter, Brenda; five grandchildren, Willy (Alissa), Jody (Valli), Miranda, Matthew and Kyle (Olga); nine great-grandchildren; two bothers, Metro and Michael; four sisters, Jean, Nettie, Anne and Margaret; brothers-in-law, Rene and Bud; sisters-in-law, Kathleen and Christine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Steve’s funeral service was held Friday, Dec. 29, 2017 at Knox Presbyterian Church, Whitewood with Pastor Jinsil Park officiating. Scriptures were ready by granddaughter Miranda Huck and great-granddaughter Zenovia Kuzub. The organist, Bonnie Velestuk, and choir members led in the hymns “How Great Thou Art” and “Nearer My God to Thee.” The precessional song was “Precious Lord Take My Hand” and “Amazing Grace” was the recessional. The urn bearers were grandsons Willy Kuzub and Jody Kuzub.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home Melville.
