Lillian Kletchko of the Ituna Pioneer Health Centre and formerly of Melville, Sask., passed away Friday, Feb.10, 2017 at the age of 94 years.
Lillian Rose was born to John and Rachel (Brown) Kinsley on March 19, 1922 at Broderick, Sask. She was the fourth of nine children.
Lillian married Horace Scott of the Kelvington, Sask. area on Oct. 31, 1942. From this union five children were born — Mary, Kenneth, Bernice, Edward and RoseAnn. In 1952, Lillian made a move to the Melville area and
continued her life there. In 1976 she and her family were reunited.
Lillian met and married Peter Kletchko, and they farmed together for many years in the Wallacetown area. She enjoyed farm life and especially the animals and always had a bountiful garden. After they moved into Melville, they travelled to various destinations in Canada and the United States; the most memorable trip was to Holland.
Lillian was a volunteer with the Thrift Shop and Rosary Sodality. Many hours in the winter were spent quilting; every family has one of her quilts in their home. Peter passed away in 1992, and Lillian continued to live in their home until she moved into Heritage House, later moving to St. Philomena Manor. The last two years, she was a resident at the Ituna Pioneer Health Care Centre.
Lillian was predeceased by her father, John Kinsley; her mother, Rachel (Brown) Kinsley; son, Kenneth, in infancy; brothers, Harvey, Raymond and Melvin; sisters, Edith, Irene and Vivian; sister-in-law, Emma; brothers-in-law, Frank Campbell, Palmer Martinson and Pete Stadnychuk; and grandson, David Pinder.
She is survived by one son and his family: Edward (Eileen) Scott, Lisa (Curtis) LaVallee, Monica (Ryan) Isaak (Grant, Nathan, Zane) and Linda (Brian) Kennedy (Jase); three daughters and their families: Mary Scott, John Pinder, Naomie (Daynin, Zoe), Debbie (Wyatt, Jade), Daniel (Jaxson, Ryker), Alexander, Angela, and her daughter, RoseMary (Dave) Cook, Sierra and Devin; Bernice (Charlie) Parfitt, Tammie (Ken) Bock, Karson, Dylan, Blair, Theresa (Neil) Reidford (Victoria), Ronald Parfitt (Laura); RoseAnn (Brian) Mark; sisters, June Stadnychuk and Maria (Bill) Partica; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017 at St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church, Melville with the Rev. Fr. Mitch Burdzy, OMI, celebrating. Sr. Theresa Kreiser assisted, the eucharistic minister was Lillian Halyk and Yvette Beutel led the music. The cross bearer was Brianna Schmeltzer, and the reader was Mary Scott. At the reception following the burial, Evelyn Schmeltzer presented the eulogy. Members of the St. Henry’s Rosary Sodality attended as a group and formed an honour guard.
Interment took place in St. Henry’s Parish Cemetery with Ryan Isaak, Dave Hudy, Daniel Pinder, Curtis LaVallee, Brian Kennedy and Michael Schmeltzer acting as pallbearers.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
