Mr. Charles (Charlie) Carl Miller of Melville, Sask., beloved husband of Kathleen Miller. Charlie,  one of 12 children was born Jan. 15, 1926 to Valentine and Eleanor Miller in Melville, Sask. and passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016.
Charlie attended Wymer School, five miles from Cana, where his love of music began when he picked up the violin and received lessons. At the age of nine he was in an accident at his family farm where he lost four of his fingers on his right hand to a crusher. Being very determined to not let his handicap hold him back, he always remained proudly employed whether it was working for Swifts or driving truck on the road construction crew.
On Feb. 21, 1949, Charlie was united in marriage to Kathleen Friesen. The couple resided in Melville and were blessed with one son. Being from a family so passionate about music, many of the brothers formed their own band, which they named the Miller’s Fronte, they played live music for the folks to get their enjoyment in places such as Neudorf and Roblin. In later years, he played with his son, Lorne, and his brother, Archie, and anyone who happened to have their instruments at a gathering.
He was a farmer at heart and had a great love of the outdoors which included fishing and gardening and he loved to tinker. He always knew how to reel in the big ones and plant a garden to harvest a healthy crop. In his younger years, he enjoyed curling and playing ball and of course, playing his violin.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Kathleen Miller, married for 67 years; son, Lorne (Lorie Antony) Miller; brother, Archie (Marlene) Miller; sister, Alice Sparks; grandchildren, Christopher Miller, Jacqueline (Carl) Wionzek, Chuck Miller, Tina (Chris) Vanderhaeghe, Tammy (Jason Watt), Mark Woods, Tyrone Kenedy-Bush and Carrie (Shaun) Gibbens; as well as many great-grandchildren, (“his babies’ as he would say); nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Valentine and Eleanor Miller; and his brothers and sisters, Carol, Phillip, Betty, Kay, Jack, Phyllis, George, Rudy, and Harold.
Arrangements were by Bailey’s Funeral and Cremation Care, Melville.
