Frank Zulyniak passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, July 31, 2016, at St. Paul Lutheran Home, Melville, Sask. at the age of 89 years.
Frank was born on Sept. 14, 1926 in the Beaverdale District to Frank and Annie (nee Pacholko) Zulyniak; he was the youngest of four children. In 1927 the family moved to the Plainview District where Frank attended Plainview School. He left school at a young age and began farming with his dad. In his younger years he enjoyed training horses and playing softball.
Frank married Elsie Lutz on Nov. 2, 1951 and together they had four children, Bev, Brad, Brian and Randy. They lived on the family farm until 1993 and then moved into Melville. He continued to farm with his sons until 1998 when he retired. Despite retiring, Frank still took great pride in the farm and helped with whatever he could for as long as he was able. Harvest was his favourite time of the year.
After retirement he enjoyed going for coffee, playing cards, dancing, biking and bowling. Playing pool, however, was his favourite hobby. Together, Frank and Elsie took many trips to B.C. to visit their family. They also enjoyed going to Manitou Springs. Frank’s greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild.
Due to failing health, he became a permanent resident of St. Paul Lutheran Home on July 31, 2015.
Frank was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Annie Zulyniak; his brother, Mike; and sister, Mary; his mother and father-in-law, Fred and Elizabeth Lutz; brothers-in-law, Tony Ochitwa, John Wenet, Henry Stachowski, Willie Kerestesh and Alex Lypka; sisters-in-law, Sandra Lutz and Mary Stachowski; a niece, Marlene Trebish; and a nephew, Clifford Zulyniak.

Frank’s funeral service was held Friday, Aug. 5, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church, Melville, with the Rev. Gerald Andersen officiating. The organist, Dorothy Herman, and the choir, led in the hymns, “Just As I Am, Without One Plea,” “How Great Thou Art” and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.” The choir anthem was “Amazing Grace.”
All those whose lives Frank touched were considered honorary pallbearers.
