WEBER – Mary (nee Exner) Weber of Melville, Sask., widow of the late Andrew, entered her eternal rest on Friday, March 4, 2016 at St. Peter’s Hospital. She was 98 years of age.
Mary was born on Oct. 4, 1917 in the Grayson district of Saskatchewan, a daughter to Joseph and Josepha (nee Stradeski) Exner.
Mary began her schooling at Columbia School in the Grayson area. When her parents moved to the Dubuc district, Mary completed her education at Dubuc School and helped her parents on the farm. At the age of 18 Mary moved to Regina where she worked at a café as a cook. While in Regina, Mary met Andrew and they were united in marriage on Sept. 16, 1939 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. The couple remained in Regina until 1942, purchased land southwest of Bangor where they farmed until 1974, then retired to Melville. After Andrew passed away in 1994, Mary continued to reside in the home. On May 1, 2011, she moved to Westview Manor, then became a resident at St. Paul Lutheran Home on Jan. 29, 2016.
Mary was an active member of St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church, of the Rosary Sodality and of St. Peter’s Hospital Auxiliary. Mary enjoyed knitting, reading, doing word search and jigsaw puzzles, playing cards and gardening, especially her beloved flowers.
Predeceased by her parents; her husband, Andrew; brothers, John (Anita), Adolph (Kay), Tony (Annie and Eva); sister, Gertie (Matt) Schmidt and brother-in-law, Phil Goreski.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory: her daughters, Diane Cheesman of Kamloops, B.C. and Margaret Weber of Medicine Hat, Alta.; grandchildren, Sean (Ingrid Holmberg) Cheesman of Victoria and Lorri (John) Murray of Kamloops, B.C. and their children, MacKenzie and Jordan; sisters, Eva (Len) Schlechter of Yorkton and Anne Goreski of Oshawa, Ont.; as well as nieces, nephews and friends.
The funeral mass was celebrated on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 from St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Mieczyslaw Burdzy, OMI, as the celebrant.
Arrangements were by Bailey’s Funeral Care, Melville.
