STRADESKI – Hilda Stradeski of Melville, Sask. and formerly of Grayson, Sask., wife of the late Walter Stradeski, entered her eternal rest on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre at the age of 87 years.
Hilda was born on Feb. 24, 1929 in Romania, a daughter to Frank and Gertrude (nee Hicke) Erl. Hilda came to Canada with her family in 1948 and settled in the Grayson District of Saskatchewan. In 1949 she went to night school to better her education. Hilda worked for some farmers in the area for two years, then moved to Saskatoon and worked for a family doing household chores. She then worked for six months in Summerberry for a farm family.
On Nov. 6, 1950 Hilda married her one and only love, Walter Stradeski, at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Grayson. The couple farmed southeast of Grayson and were blessed with eight children. Hilda took an active part in helping her husband farm, as well as raising their children. The couple retired in 1975 and moved to Grayson. Walter passed away in 1997 and Hilda resided in Grayson until 1999, when she then moved to Melville.
Hilda was an active, devoted member of St. Mary’s Church in Grayson and St. Henry’s Church in Melville. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Ladies in Grayson, and the Rosary Sodality in Melville.
She enjoyed baking, knitting, sewing, gardening, playing cards, reading, and going for coffee, as well as spending time with her children, 15 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Hilda was predeceased by her husband, Walter; parents; sister, Elsie; and brother, Rudy; also her mother and father-in-law; as well as numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her beloved children, Lorena (Ken) Baker, their children, Melissa (Doug) Rea, son, Turner; Mark (Zoe) Stiglitz, daughters, Vianne and Eden; Monica (Adam) Rieger, their children, Rick (Keri) Rieger, children, Karyss and Jasper; Derek (Tara) Rieger, daughter, Taylor; Jeremy (Heidi) Rieger, son, Wyatt; Amanda Rieger (Mike Hordichuk); Sandy Stradeski, her son, Ashley (Laura) Stradeski, daughter, Kara; Randy Stradeski, his children, Amy (Jesse) Singh, children, Danika and Zach; Jenni Stradeski (David Chapados), daughter, Ophelia; Brandi Stradeski (Adam Buxton), son, Nash; Norma (Jeff) deWaal, their children, Chelsea (Chris) Hanes, son, Kamron; and Shaun (Jamie) Maguire; Gerard (Sandra) Stradeski; Becky (Wade) Best, their daughter, Tiffany Best (Josh Bugg); Carla (Joey) Harrick, their daughters, Cassidy and Bailey Harrick; sisters, Erna Hicke, Herta Hubick, Freda (George) Koscki, Gertrude Kainz, Erica Erl; sisters-in-law, Betty Stradeski, Adeline Varga, Helen Stradeski and Vivian Stradeski; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Arrangements were by Bailey’s Funeral Home, Melville.
