WIKMAN – Harry Gust, July 13, 1927 – Oct. 9, 2015.
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear Dad, Papa and Uncle Harry, peacefully at home on Texada Island, B.C. on Friday, Oct. 9, 2015.
Harry was predeceased by his wife, Louise (2008); as well as his older siblings, Anna, Kristina and Olaf; and his parents, Frida and Karl Erik Wikman, all long-time residents of Melville.
He will be fondly remembered by his children: Steven (Judy), Anne (Dennis) Premack; grandchildren, Eric and Tasha; and great-grandson, Carter; also his dear niece, Lynne (Bill) Kaschl of Calgary, Alta.; cousin, Richard (Maureen) Berg of Thunder Bay, Ont.; many nieces and nephews and close friends.
Born in Melville, Harry worked the family farm while attending school, then left for Ontario where he began his career in logging. He followed work to B.C. in 1955, ending up on Texada Island where he met and married Louise and raised their family. Harry also worked for 18 years for B.C. Ferries prior to retiring at 65.
Dad loved life on Texada. He repaired power saws for years, enjoyed fishing, grew huge gardens with prize-winning pumpkins, and enjoyed crib games with his dear friends. He was active in the community and the Elks Lodge.
He was a man of principle, honesty and standing up for your word, with a handshake.
He was always ready with a helping hand for anyone in need, with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye.
We will miss you, Dad.
