HOLITZKI – John Holitzki of Yorkton, Sask. passed away peacefully at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on Monday, Aug. 24, 2015 at the age of 84 years.
John was born on Oct. 23, 1930 in Killaly, SK to Joseph and Margaret Holitzki. He attended school in Killaly untill he was in Grade 8 and then helped out on the family farm.
After a lengthy courtship, on Feb. 17, 1955, Ionne and John were married and the happy couple moved to Melville and started their family. They had two daughters, Cheryl and Carol. John and Ionne relocated to Yorkton in 1962 with their daughters where John worked at Coke, Niefer Transport and then at Pepsi until his retirement.
John liked to be kept busy after retirement delivering newspapers, cutting grass, snow blowing, playing cards, crafting, bowling, gardening, going for coffee, going to the casino and spending as much time with his cherished family as he could.
In April 2007, Ionne passed away. On Aug. 18, 2007, John and Olga Prybylski were united in marriage and moved to Fisher Court where they resided until his death.
John was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Margaret Holitzki; his sisters, Mary Kovach, Theresa Graff, Edit Sego; his brother, Joseph Holitzki; and his wife, Ionne Holitzki.
John leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Olga Prybylski; his daughters, Cheryl (Daryl) Byblow, Carol (Barry) Varga; grandchildren, Jocelyn (Shawn) Pryhitka, Lyndsey (Mike Twan) Byblow, Curtis (Jenn) Varga, Alanna (Justin Stevens) Byblow, Lisa (Sheldon Smith) Varga, and Tyson Varga; great-grandchildren, Cheyenne (Jiriah Dozorec), Kassidy, Ryland, Peyton, Zachary, Dayton, Ashton and Isabella; step-children: Bernadette Draper, Isabel (Harvey) Eckel, Evelyn (David) Hull, Richard (Debbie) Prybylski, Martha (Randy) Kruda, Delores (Blair) Harris, and William Prybylski and their families.
John also leaves to cherish his memory: numerous nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives he generously touched during his journey through life.
The funeral service was held on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015 from Zion Lutheran Church in Yorkton. Rev. Daniel Moeller officiated. Organist, Verna Liebrecht led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, “The Old Rugged Cross,” “In the Garden” and “Amazing Grace.”
Interment followed in the Garden of St. Mark at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Kassidy Pryhitka and Zachary Varga serving as the urnbearers.
