Date of Birth: October 8, 1941
With sadness and sorrow, we announce the passing of Joyce Edna Lilian Bagley (Oakey) at the age of 84. Joyce was born to Stan and Hazel on Oct. 8, 1941, just seven miles north east of Rivers, MB. Her brother, Neil, at two and a half years old was there waiting for her in the same house that has since been moved to the current location just a half mile outside of Rivers. Brother Jack would come along just a few years later, and David 15 years later than Jack.
Joyce spent her youth in Rivers doing her schooling there, delivering papers on foot with Neil in the cold prairie winters, getting into mischief with her friend Faye, going to dances and living the life of a teenage girl in the 50s.
When Joyce was 17, a farm boy from Hamiota, MB came to work for Stan and that’s how she found the love of her life. Joyce and George got married Nov 21, 1959, at the St. James Anglican Church in Rivers and they had 63 years together. Shortly after their marriage along came Bryan, Brenda and Craig. The next step in her life was to be the most loving Mom she could be. Well, she sure accomplished that and as the family grew older, they bounced around Southern Manitoba until they eventually settled in Yorkton, SK. There on her little house on King Street, her legacy really began to blossom! Family and friends were welcomed to come by for an hour coffee, and they always felt like they were at home. If you needed a place to be loved or listened to people knew where to go for 54 years.
Joyce began working at CTV Yorkton writing for shows and commercials. This enhanced her love for literature, and you would rarely find her not reading or writing. Always
doing something, Joyce would be knitting, baking or cooking for the thousands of people that came to the house. She had a creative and artistic mind which you could see in her paintings and garden. All this and always ready to love her family and friends. She truly was a wonderful wife, Mom, and grandmother.
Joyce is predeceased by her husband George; son Bryan; granddaughter Emily and granddaughter-in-law Alicia Venne.
Left to mourn is her daughter Brenda (Brian); grandson Brogan (Jessica), Xavier, Kascia, Hezekiah and Enver; son Craig (Georgina); grandson Chad (Lisa), Sierra, Brynn; and granddaughter-in-law Lindsey.
