It is with deep sadness and heartfelt love that the family of Jessie Pollock (Vickerton) announces her peaceful passing at the remarkable age of 103.
Jessie was predeceased by her parents, George and Jessie Vickerton; her brothers Lawrence (Jessie) and Cecil; and her beloved husband, Ivan.
Born in the small village of Melmerby in North Yorkshire, England, Jessie grew up with a strong work ethic and a resilient spirit. She left school at 14 to begin working, and at 17 was conscripted during the war, moving to Newcastle to work in a munitions factory. Despite the long stretches away from home, she served with dedication for four years. During this time, she met a Canadian airman, Ivan Pollock, who would become the love of her life.
After the war, Jessie and Ivan married in Thirsk, England. Ivan returned to Canada, and Jessie soon followed as an English War Bride. They settled in Yorkton, SK, where they began their family. Life brought challenges, including a tuberculosis diagnosis for Jessie, Ivan, and their three children, leading to three years at Fort San. Their return home was a joyful milestone, marking a new beginning.
The family later moved to Melville, where Ivan managed Park’s Jewelry Store before he and Jessie opened Pollock’s Jewelry Store, which they proudly owned and operated together. After Ivan’s passing, Jessie moved to St. Albert, AB, to be closer to family.
She cherished her time there, surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, celebrating countless special moments. Jessie leaves behind a legacy of love and strength. She is lovingly remembered by her four children, Laurence (Joanne), Terry (Janet), Maureen (Dave), and Kevin; her 11 grandchildren; and her 20 great-grandchildren. She is also remembered by her niece Anne (Ralph) Button of England; many nieces and nephews; and her extended family, including Glenda Pollock (Ken) and Georgie Bromley, who provided Jessie with unwavering love and support.
Interment will be held on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. in Melville Cemetery, Highway #47 South and 2 kilometers East on Cemetery Road.
