Date of Birth: August 12, 1930
Date of Death: February 21, 2026
With great sadness, the family of Anne Wyonzek announce her passing at the Canora Gateway Lodge on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026, at the age of 95 years.
Anne was born on Aug. 12, 1930, in Foston, SK, to Hnat and Christine Wonsiak – the first of their children to be born in Canada. When she was young, the family settled on a farm near Rose Valley. Anne later worked at the Rose Valley bakery and moved with the owners to Wadena, where she became an accomplished baker, a skill her family and community enjoyed throughout her life.
At 21, Anne moved to Canora, where she met the love of her life, Henry Wyonzek, at the Fireman’s Ball. They were engaged on New Year’s Eve in 1953 and married on Oct. 30, 1954. Anne and Henry lived on the Wyonzek family farm until 1963, when they moved into their newly built home in town – still the heart of the family today. It has long been the place where holidays, birthdays, and countless gatherings brought everyone together.
Anne’s family was the center of her world. She and Henry raised seven children and were blessed with nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Her days were filled with baking, gardening, and sewing, yet she always made time for her friends, extended family, church, and community.
Anne’s everyday chores became her passion. She loved to spend warm summer days in her garden, using the fruits of her labour to prepare delicious meals for her family. She was a gifted seamstress, creating costumes, blankets and parkas and mending many a pair of torn Levis. Anne was most well known for her greatest passion, baking and decorating beautiful wedding cakes, a gift many have enjoyed for over 60 years.
Anne and Henry made time to travel to see friends, family and parts of the world. Together they attended Expo ’67 and saw the Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup that same year. Twice they enjoyed memorable road trips to Disney World in Orlando, journeys that still bring stories and laughter to this day. They were most grateful to see their beloved Canada from coast to coast.
Anne will be remembered for her remarkable talents, her unwavering work ethic and her strong yet loving nature. She will be missed by everyone who knew, loved, and cherished her.
Anne is predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Paul, Mike and Bill; her sisters, Mary Zwarych and Kathy Donald; her great grandson, Austin Constant; and her beloved husband, Henry.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Dave, Darcy, Ken (Shelley), Pat, Margaret (Steve Elekes), Geoff (Emily), and Bob (Christy); her brother, John; her grandchildren, Kyle (Acara), Kayla (Blake Constant), Steven, Adam, Dylan (Todd McCaslin), Tarrington (Kelsey), Tannum, Megan, and Grace; and her great grandchildren, Arista, Acelyn, Sienna, and Crew. She will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends.
A Vigil of Prayer was held at 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, and Funeral Mass celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, both from St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Canora, SK, with Rev. Fr. Thomas Mutavanattu as celebrant. Rite of Committal followed in the Canora Cemetery, Canora, SK. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Canora Gateway Lodge Auxiliary, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Anne Wyonzek.
