Elsie was born Oct. 4, 1926, at Birmingham, SK. She was the ninth child of thirteen born to Henry and Mary Hauser.
Elsie went to school in Birmingham, then moved to Vancouver, BC, where she worked in a bakery, then returned in 1949 and married Rudolf Hahn on April 28, 1950. They had four children, Garry, Beverly, Brent and Garnet. Rudy and Elsie farmed west of Melville until they moved into Melville in 1978. Elsie worked as a farm wife but also worked a number of years as a care aid at St. Paul Lutheran Home.
Mom enjoyed singing, cooking, gardening, playing cards, baking, watching curling, family dinners and spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially attending their hockey games. Mom loved making and eating perogies and sharing her smile with everyone.
Mom went very peacefully on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 6:50 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Home in Melville; she was 97 years of age.
Elsie is survived by son Garry Hahn and grandson Michael (Jody) Hahn and great-grandchildren, Harley (Lindsay), Magnum and Maverick Hahn and granddaughter Michelle; daughter Beverly (Jim) Daunheimer, grandchild Kellie (Mark) Kopeck and great-grandson Cruze, grandchild Jackie (Chad) Rutzki and great-grandchild Kennedy (Gia) Ottenbreit, grandson Tucker and granddaughter Paxten; son Brent (Lynn) Hahn and grandchildren Chad and Melisa and great-grandchildren Madison and Kiara, grandchild Bobbi-Lyn (Blair) Weiman and great-grandchildren Maggie, Molly and Mathew; son Garnet (Denise) Hahn, grandchild Julie (Tyler) Bierwagen and great-grandchildren Triton, Chase and Ryder, grandchild Brady (Bailey) and great-grandchild Luca, grandchild Tyler (Katie) and great- grandchildren Rowyn and Benson; one brother, William Hauser of Ontario; sisters-in-law Evelyn Hauser and Elsie Hahn; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Mary; her husband, Rudy; great-grandson Cooper Hahn (child of Chad Hahn); eleven siblings, Fred (Erna), John (Joyce), Ed (Lil), Albert (Joan), Wilbert (Erla), Joe (Olga), Jack (Alice), Walter, Martha (1917), Martha in 1978 (Abe) and Mary (Art) Schindel; and sister-in-law Mavis Hauser.
Elsie’s funeral service was held Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church, Melville, with the Rev. Laverne Hautz officiating and Dorothy Herman as organist. The reader was Bobbi-Lyn Weiman, and Kellie Kopeck and Brady Hahn shared family memories. All of Elsie’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were considered honorary pallbearers, and the active pallbearers were Michael Hahn, Chad Hahn, Brady Hahn, Tyler Hahn, Harley Hahn and Magnum Hahn. Interment took place in the Melville City Cemetery.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
