Date of Birth: August 24, 1940
Date of Death: October 15, 2023
Glenn was born Aug. 24, 1940, to Phillip and Anna (Schmidt) Bender on the farm at Neudorf, SK.
He attended Baber School as a child and was confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Zion Lutheran Church. From an early age, Glenn understood the importance of organizations and joined many groups. He started his career showing Shorthorn cattle in 1955 when his father bought their first Shorthorn bull. In 1972 Glenn married the love of his life, Beverly Hubbard. They raised two children, Rayleen and Ryan, on the family farm south of Neudorf.
Glenn was an active leader in the Neudorf 4-H beef club for many years, even after his children finished in the club. He took pride in his animals and crops and continued to grow his farming operation. He also loved driving a team of heavy horses and taking them out to parades. Glenn was a storyteller and kept you entertained with a few jokes, which helped make the work and time go by faster.
In 2012 Glenn lost his wife, Bev. He stayed on the farm and actively helped Ryan until his battle with prostate cancer began in January of 2022. In July of 2022, he moved into the Lakeside Care Home in Wolseley, where he resided until his passing. His phone calls home to ask about calves and which field they were harvesting will be missed.
Glenn will be lovingly remembered by his children, Rayleen (Blaine) Possberg of Humboldt, SK, and Ryan Bender of Neudorf, SK; his grandchildren, Katherine, Carter and Chase Possberg; his brothers, Bill (Eleanor) Bender and Art (Laurette) Bender; sister-in-law Audrey Bender; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Larry Hubbard and Lorne (Beth) Hubbard; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Beverly (Hubbard); his parents, Phillip and Anna Bender; in-laws George and Belva Hubbard; siblings Bernice Frick, Pearl Patzwald, Lillian Mass and Ron Bender; along with several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Glenn’s funeral service was held on Friday, Oct. 20, 2023, at Christ Lutheran Church, Neudorf, with Deacon Kevin Prouten officiating. Organist Barb Waldbauer led the congregation in the singing of the hymns and Greg Frick delivered the eulogy. Interment took place in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, near Neudorf, with Cordell Bender, Darwin Bender, Jason Bender, Jerrod Hubbard, Joey Kanciruk, Jeremy Kanciruk and Brian Mass acting as pallbearers.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
