Date of Birth: October 10, 1950

Date of Death: September 16, 2023

Florence Ulmer (Litzenberger), age 72 years, of Melville, Sask., passed away on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023, at St. Peter’s hospital after battling cancer.
Florence is survived by her husband of 50 years, John; her sons, Evan (Alicia), Brent (Ann) and Brian (Audrey); and four loving granddaughters, Jacelyn, Cassidy, Oriah and Cadence.
Florence was born on Oct. 10, 1950, to Phillip and Katherine Litzenberger, the second oldest of six children: Winifred (Gerry) Gellner, Joan (Garry) Tank, Janet (Doug) Cantelon, Ron Litzenberger and Elmer (Tammy) Litzenberger.
Florence started her schooling at Pearl Creek country school and later attended junior high school and high school in Melville. After graduating high school, Florence attended the University of Regina and attained her education certificate. She worked for a while at the junior high school in Melville, and later, she substitute taught at Goodeve, Fenwood and various Melville schools.
Florence and John were married on July 28, 1973, and lived on 6th Avenue West in Melville with their boys and John’s dad, Mathais. In 1983, after Mathais passed away, John, Florence and their sons moved to the farm where John and his siblings grew up (and John continued to farm) between Goodeve, Duff and Fenwood. John and Florence raised their family on that farm and lived there until 2014, when they moved back to Melville to their current residence.
Florence had many interests including cooking, baking, gardening, sewing and quilting, but her greatest pleasure came from raising her children, and, when they grew up, spending time with them and her grandchildren. Florence was involved in her church, and while she and Dad did some travelling, including a trip to Hawaii, Mom was someone who really loved and enjoyed being at their home around family and friends.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at St. Peter’s Hospital and home care staff for the compassion and care with which they treated Mom and also the care and support they provided for Dad as he spent his full days there at Mom’s side.
Florence’s funeral service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Melville. Interment will take place in St. Petri Lutheran Cemetery in the Goodeve district. Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Melville.
Arrangements are entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
