Date of Birth: September 1, 1930

Date of Death: May 28, 2023

Mary Krotenko passed away peacefully at the Canora Gateway Lodge, Canora, SK, on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at the age of 92 years.
Mary was born on Sept. 1, 1930, to Polly and Mike (Misha) Kazakoff near the village of Veregin, SK. She attended Tolstoi School across the road from the farm, then went off to Kamsack to further her education. She then moved to Canora and
became a telephone operator for Saskatchewan Government Telephones. Soon after, she met a dashing, handsome young man, Samual Krotenko, married him on Nov. 1, 1952, and soon after started a family … Ruth (Fauser), Lynn, Esther (Schneider) and Allan.
Mary lived a full, blessed and busy life. Her home was always open to all who stopped by. She loved to cook, whether it was Russian, Ukrainian, Chinese or anything else she could find a recipe for. Her borsch, vereniki and bread were the best! Not only was she an amazing wife, busy mom and loving grandmother, she worked at the Canora Union Hospital and a bit at the old K-Mart in Yorkton … but no matter what, family always came first.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Teena (Mike) Hrooshkin, Jack (Florence) Kazakoff, Verna (Donald) Brown, and infant sister, Loraine; her parents, Misha and Polly Kazakoff; her son, Lynn Samuel; son-in-law, Stewart; and her beloved husband of 49 years, Samuel Henry.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Ruth Fauser, grandchildren: Amanda, Sheldon, Aaron and their families; daughter, Esther (Tyrone) Schneider and grandson, Brett; her son, Allan; and her sister, Florence Bodnarchuk; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
A small graveside Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 19, 2023, at the Stoney Creek Cemetery in Stenen, SK, with Linda Osachoff officiating. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the National Doukhobor Heritage, Verigin, SK or to a Charity of Donors Choice, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Mary Krotenko.
Family and friends unable to attend are invited to sign an online guestbook at: www.lesonsfuneralhome.ca
Arrangements were entrusted to Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora.
