Irvin Edward Wersta was born on Dec. 10, 1947, at St. Peter’s Hospital, Melville, to John and Annie (Kozakevich) Wersta.
Irvin spent his childhood years on the farm where they lived. He started his education at Halech School in the Goodeve district. When he finished elementary school, he helped his dad with farming.
Irvin spent his time helping at the church in Goodeve, mainly services, and cutting the lawn at the cemetery for many years. He received a plaque for his 40 years of work there.
Irvin was united in marriage to Sharon Gregory at Stornoway, SK, on July 10, 1968, at the Orthodox Church. Unfortunately, this union was tragically cut short when Sharon died as a result of a motor vehicle collision, in which Irvin was seriously injured.
Irvin was predeceased by his father, John, March 1989; brother Ernest, October 2004; mother Annie, Oct. 26, 2006; and sister Gladys, March 15, 1941, at six months old. He leaves to mourn his passing: his sister, Joanne, of Melville, SK; Lisa and Allan, Austin and Alissa Fetsch, Lauren and Catlin; Luke Kayo; and Lionel Parachoniak; as well as cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
Irvin’s funeral service was held Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Matthews Funeral Home, Melville, with the Rev. Fr. Michael Faryna officiating and Jason Kopan as the cantor. Interment took place in Holy Ghost Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, Goodeve.
