Date of Birth: June 25, 1955

Date of Death: December 11, 2022

Grant Mann of Melville, SK, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, at the age of 67 years.
Grant was born to August and Katherine (Redenbach) Mann on June 25, 1955, in Melville, SK; he was the youngest of six children. He was raised on a farm near Melville and later moved to Melville.
Grant was united in marriage to the love of his life, Katherine Lumb, on July 2, 1976. They made Melville their home and raised their two children, Jeniffer and Clayton. In 1988, they moved to Killaly and enjoyed the quiet village life until 1994, when life brought them back to Melville.
In his younger years, Grant worked at the local rink, Sunrise Bakery and Gene’s Service. Then his career led him to employment with the Department of Highways. In 1976, Grant hired on at CN as a carman in Melville. He worked there until 1987 when he chose to leave CN rather than move his family to Winnipeg. Grant ended his working career at St. Paul Lutheran Home in the maintenance department for 15 years. In retirement, he enjoyed cutting grass and maintaining the cemetery in Duff and going for coffee with friends and strangers alike.
Grant was a family man through and through. You would see him at every single game, performance and event in which his children and grandchildren were involved. He would be honking the horn when we made a great play or hit a home run. Grant did anything to support and help his children, such as volunteering as stage construction crew for his daughter’s play or running the coconut throw at the annual Canada Day event. He always made time for his children – to lend a helping hand, teach them how to build something or talk about things going on in their lives.
Grant loved to cruise and just see where the day would take him. He always had a friendly smile and wave as he drove past with his trusty co-pilot Chevy (the original), Indy (the goofball) and then Harley (the guard dog). He had a weekly route of communities or places he would go for coffee and visit.
Grant enjoyed the time he spent with his wife the most. Kathy was the love of his life, and you could see it in the way they were together. Whether he was cruising the countryside, at the farm caring for the livestock, or checking out the nearest rodeo, if he was with Kathy, he was the happiest man in the world.
Grant was one of the kindest, friendliest and most generous souls. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, find a lost dog, teach someone a new skill or even just talk to you because he noticed someone was having a bad day. He firmly believed in taking life one day at a time and that it is important to slow down and take the time to enjoy life.
Grant was predeceased by his parents, August and Katherine Mann; brothers Larry and Morley; brothers-in-law Gordon and Joe; sisters-in-law Freda and Moira; and nephew Garth. He is survived by his loving wife, Katherine Mann; two children and their families: daughter Jeniffer (Jason Stein) and their children, Garrett, Katelyn, Jonathan and Nicholas; and son Clayton (Darci Kirkwood) and their daughter, Addisyn; sisters Dorthy (Bill) Wendel, Ivy Berner and Marion Braun; brothers-in-law Ken (Kim) Lumb; sisters-in-law Diana Mann, and Diane (Jerry) Stulberg; and many nieces and nephews.
Grant’s funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022, at All Saints’ Anglican Church, Melville, with the Rev. Kim Sherwin officiating. The organist, Gaylene Matthews, led in the hymns “Blest Be the Tie That Binds”, “In the
Garden” and “Amazing Grace”. Bill Wendel read scripture, and Grant’s daughter and son, Jeniffer and Clayton, presented the eulogy. Honorary pallbearers were Nicholas Stein, Addisyn Mann, Jonathan Stein and all Grant’s friends he met along his journeys. Interment took place in Duff Cemetery with Clayton Mann, Jason Stein, Garrett Stein, Katelyn Stein, Doug Berner and Ken Lumb acting as pallbearers.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
