It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Matilda Bogdan on Friday, Aug. 19, 2022, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Melville, SK, where she just recently celebrated her 88th birthday.
Matilda (Koko Grandma) was born Aug. 13, 1934, and was the eldest child of George and Barbara (Kosloski) Fuchs. Matilda leaves behind siblings Robert Fuchs and Lucille Kohlenberg. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph (Dec. 25,1981); her parents; father-in-law Karl
Bogdan and mother in-law Christina (Klein); brothers Wilfred and Ron Fuchs; as well as numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law.
On Oct. 26, 1953, Matilda married Joseph Bogdan, and they were blessed with seven children. Matilda was left a widow at the age of 47; she carried on to raise her family of five children who were living at home. Family was her life, and she was the foundation of our family. Matilda was well known for her wonderful cooking. She started out working at the Temple Café in Grayson in 1960 and worked intermittently at the café and hotel for many years. She then started her catering career in 1993, where her delectable foods were enjoyed by many at birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and senior centres. Everyone enjoyed the tasty meals she prepared, and she was famous for her “Matilda’s buns”, cabbage rolls and perogies. Aside from her love for cooking, she also enjoyed card games such as upser, board games and, of course, casino trips.
Matilda always showed great care and compassion for her friends and family, including 18 of her very own grandchildren. She will continue to watch over her loved ones, including those lives that will come into the world, which encompasses her 19th great-grandchild who was born on Aug. 24.
Matilda leaves everlasting memories with her beloved children: son Randy (Myrna) Bogdan – children Chandra (Dean) Bogdan, Andrea (Kevin) Belitski and Michelle (Daniel) Spain; daughter Karen (Gerry) Klemenz – children Corey (Nikki) Klemenz, Ryan (Laura) Klemenz, Joel (Sarah) Klemenz; son Ken (Lillian) Bogdan – children Tyler (Conner) Bogdan, Steven (Whitney) Bogdan; daughter Patsy (Neil) Rolufs – children Jesse Rolufs, Jordan Rolufs, Jayda Rolufs; son Dale (Noelle) Bogdan – children Bailey (Matt) Bogdan, Casey (Austin) Bogdan and Maxx Bogdan; son Darren Bogdan (Lanita) – children Carson (Rhian) Bogdan, Logan Bogdan, Morgan Bogdan; daughter Denise (Brad) Tuba – children McKenzie (Austin) Tuba, Kelcey Tuba; as well as 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, Aug. 26, 2022, at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Grayson with the Rev. Fr. John Mock officiating. Participants included Neal Ottenbreit and the Grayson Choir who provided the music, Rob Bogdan and Carissa Nye read scripture passages, Dennis Fuchs read the eulogy, Lucille Kohlenberg and Bob Fuchs were the gift bearers, and all of Matilda’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were honorary pallbearers. Interment took place in St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery with Chandra Bogdan, Corey Klemenz, Tyler Bogdan, Jesse Rolufs, Bailey Bogdan, Carson Bogdan and McKenzie Tuba acting as pallbearers.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
