Mike Ludwar of Melville, Sask. and formerly of Grayson, beloved husband of Marlene Ludwar. Mike entered his eternal rest on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022 at St. Peter’s Hospital at the age of 84 years.
Mike Ludwar was born on Sept. 30, 1937 in Grayson, Sask., son of Jacob and Rosalie Ludwar. He was raised on the family farm in the Grayson district and attended Flegel School.
Mike married Marlene Reiger on Nov. 7, 1959 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Grayson. They moved to Regina shortly after marriage where Mike worked for Sash and Door. Farm life called him back to Grayson where they settled on his brother Tony Ludwar’s homestead.
Mike worked full time as a welder in Esterhazy while starting up his own farm. He was skilled in welding, mechanics and carpentry in addition to running the business of farming.
Mike was an avid sports fan. In his younger years, he curled in Grayson competing in bonspiels in the surrounding area. Mike loved watching hockey, especially when his sons or grandsons were involved. Mike’s hobbies included playing golf and chess and listening to country music. He also enjoyed watching hockey, curling and football, particularly the Saskatchewan Roughriders, on television.
Mike will be remembered as a kind and hardworking man. His strength and determination are traits he quietly illustrated. He taught his children to be respectful and responsible with a strong work ethic; he was very proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Rosalie Ludwar; and his siblings, Tony, Mary, Betty, Teresa, Anne and Frank. He is survived by Marlene, his loving wife of 62 years. He will be missed by his children: Stuart (Gail) Ludwar of Surrey, B.C., Lisa (Mike) Stewart of Delburne, Alta., Coralee (Tom) Peterson of Regina, Sask., and Michael (Cayce) Ludwar of Williston, VT; his grandchildren: Jenais (Andrew) Ludwar, Colton Ludwar, Braden (Raya) Stewart, Ali (Parker) Allison, Sienna Peterson, Kaden
Peterson, Jake Ludwar, Cooper Ludwar, Max Ludwar; and great-grandchildren, Bentley, Graysley and Haddie Allison.
Prayer services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022 at 7 p.m. from St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church in
Melville, with Father Andrew Sowa, OMI, as the presider. The funeral mass was celebrated on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022 at 11 a.m. from St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Grayson with Rev. Fr. John Mock as the celebrant.
Arrangements were by Bailey’s Funeral Home, Melville.
