Imelda Dancsok passed peacefully, with her children by her side, on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022, at the Whitewood Community Health Centre at the age of 88 years.
Imelda Marie Albertine Denise was born on April 5, 1933, in St. Hubert to Robert and Emma Istace. She attended school at St.
Hubert, Beynes, Forget and St. John’s, finishing Grade 9 by correspondence. She then worked at St. Joan of Arc Home, Lebret Seminary, achieved her Certified Nursing Assistant certificate in Saskatoon and returned to Whitewood to work as a CNA. Upon returning to Whitewood, Imelda met her future husband, Douglas Dancsok. They were married on Nov. 22, 1958, and had four children.
Imelda was a very active member of the community as a member of the CWL, the School Band Parents Association and Whitewood Figure Skating Club. She was instrumental in starting up the Heritage Building and enjoyed her time there as a volunteer. Once her children left home, Imelda enjoyed visiting them and sharing in their successes and adventures.
Imelda retired in 1993 when the hospital closed. She was then delighted to be able to travel to Japan, England, Belgium and Mexico. Imelda treasured her grandchildren and loved to watch them in their activities.
Imelda was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Emma (Brule) Istace; her husband, Douglas; brothers Joseph, Clement, Maurice, George and Alphonse; sister Lea (Paquin); brothers-in-law Rene Paquin and Victor Gatin: and sister-in-law Blanche Istace.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Ed (Missy) Dancsok, Regina, SK; Michael Dancsok (Yuko Kawamata), Regina, SK;
Rose-Ann (Lyle) Morris, Shellbrook, SK; and Marie Dancsok, Edmonton, AB. Imelda is fondly remembered by her grandchildren, Alissa (Jamie) Stewart, Regina, SK; Amy (Brennan) Pusch, Regina, SK; Amanda Dancsok, Saskatoon, SK; and Ron (Tania) Elliott, Williams Lake, BC; and her great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Haylen Stewart, Jayce and Evelyn Pusch and Seth and Liam Elliot. Imelda will be sadly missed by her brothers and sisters, Guy (Bev) Istace, Anne Marie (Stewart) Nixon, Rose Gatin, Octavie Istace, Urbain (Cecile) Istace, Marguerite (Brian) Brandon, Laurent (Wendy) Istace, Victor (Brenda) Istace, Jean Paul (Denise) Istace, Agnes Jameson and Edouard (Linda) Istace; and sister-in law and dear friend, Winnifred Berkes.
The family is very grateful for the loving care that Imelda received at the health centre. All the staff created a very homey place, and Imelda’s family grew to include all her caregivers.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Imelda at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Whitewood, SK, on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022, with the Rev. Fr. Tomy Mandapathil celebrating. St. Joseph’s Church Choir led the music, and a tribute song was sung by granddaughters Alissa, Amy and Amanda. Reading the scriptures were Amy Pusch, Alissa Dancsok-Stewart and Amanda Dancsok. Staff members of the Whitewood Community Health Centre and former Whitewood Hospital Staff were considered honorary pallbearers. Active pallbearers were Jackie Gatin, Rob Istace, Guy Paquin, Daren Istace, Dennis BrulÇ and Ludger Istace. Interment followed in the Whitewood Cemetery.
