On Sunday, Nov. 1, 2020, around 10 a.m., Rosthern RCMP responded to the report of a collision involving a car and a train in the town of Rosthern at the railway crossing along Highway 312.

Initial investigation by police revealed a car carrying four occupants was travelling east on Highway 312 when it was struck while crossing over the train tracks. The train was travelling south.

The 30-year-old female driver was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS. Three other passengers in the car, all female youths between the ages of 7 and 12, were all in the back seat and transported to hospital with what were reported to be serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

An RCMP Traffic Reconstructionist and the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service also attended the scene.

Further investigation by the Rosthern RCMP determined the rail crossing equipment, including the lights and the bell, appeared operational while police officers were on scene. The rail line is privately owned.

The investigation is ongoing.
