On Monday, Sept. 14, 2020, Judy Talbot passed away peacefully at age 92 at the Esterhazy Care Home with her daughter, Jeanette, holding her hand.
Judy was born March 8, 1928 to Paulina and Jacob Kopetski at home in the Cotham District south of Dubuc. She grew up in a family with nine sisters and one brother. They attended Cotham School, went to the Catholic Church in Grayson and grew up on the family farm. Her first job away from home was as a hired girl with Lily and Con Bell and their young family when she was 15. In 1943, at a whist drive at Larson School, she met John Talbot, a handsome farmer from Freedhome. She later was a waitress at the Boston Café in Yorkton while still dating John. They were engaged at a Waldron barn dance at Hughie Powell’s. Judy and John were married on June 11, 1948 at the Dubuc United Church.
The couple were blessed with twins, a girl, Jeanette, and a boy, James. They lived on the Talbot farm until 1957, moving into Dubuc when John started employment with the RM.
Judy was busy hosting baby health clinics at her house, selling Avon, taking part in church and community events and being secretary for the Dubuc Rural Telephone Company. In retirement, she enjoyed coffee row, being the correspondent for three local newspapers and attending craft sales. Music always played a very important part in Mom’s life.
In 2010, Judy and John moved from their Dubuc home to Sumner Place, Esterhazy. Judy and John celebrated 65 years of marriage before John passed away in January 2014. Judy kept busy in Esterhazy making new friends and renewing old acquaintances. She loved visiting in the lounge with the other residents. In January 2018, Judy moved to assisted living at Bangor Morris Lodge and enjoyed the time spent there until being hospitalized on Aug. 1 and then becoming a resident at the care home.
She is survived by daughter, Jeanette (Ed) Boyechko, Curtis (Richard Carlisle) Boyechko; Donna (Kevin) Schwitzer; son, James (Vivian) Talbot, Dayna (Pat) Markwart, Colton (Taylor Braden) and Jayme; Darla Talbot, Carter, Sarah and Liam Bailey; Shane (Terra) Talbot, Riley and Ashalee; one sister, Joey Elliott; two sisters-in-law, Francis Swift and Agnes Talbot; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Judy was predeceased by husband, John; her parents; siblings, Katherine (infant), Sophie (Ludger) Tremblay (John) Baldwin, Anna (Henry) Novak, Jake (Rose) Kopetski, Eva (Ralph) Carlson, Betty (George) Brown, Gert (Al) Leubke, Mary (Eric) Forsberg, Kay (Eddie) Gillette, (Roy) Elliott, Peggy (Glen) Crowdis; in-laws, Arthur and Jessie Talbot, Marjory Talbot (aged six), (Charlie) Swift, Helen Ford, and Ralph Talbot.
The funeral service was held from the Peter Carscadden Funeral Chapel, Esterhazy, on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Susan Griffith officiating. Interment followed in the Dubuc Village Cemetery. Pallbearers were Curtis Boyechko, Shane Talbot, Kevin Schwitzer, Patrick Markwart, Richard Carlisle, Carter Bailey, Riley Talbot, Colton Markwart. Honourary pallbearers were Donna Schwitzer, Dayna Markwart, Darla Talbot, Terra Talbot, Liam Bailey, Ashalee Talbot, Sarah Bailey, Jayme Markwart and Taylor Braden.
