May 29, 1930 – August 3, 2019

It is with great sadness that the family of Zenon Raymond Bainas announces his passing, after a short illness,
on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019 at the age of 89 years.
Zenon was predeceased by his loving wife, Diane; and youngest son, John; as well as his parents, Alek and Pearl; and
siblings, William, Fred, John, Mary, Alex and Nick.
He will be remembered by his children, Zenon (Julia), Juliane (Kevan), Zandra (Steve), Gordon and James. Zenon will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Jonathan, Oliver, Gavin, Sophia, Sydney, Jake, Jason and Nicholas.
Zenon was born on the farm in the RM of Garry in 1930, on May 29, 1930, the youngest child of a large family. He left home in his teens to find work in Winnipeg and ended up working on the CN and CP rail lines as he made his way west across Canada to Vancouver Island, BC. On the island, he worked for six months at a gunpowder plant before finding work at a mill. Zenon made Victoria his home and raised his children there before moving back to the family farm in Saskatchewan to take care of his father and brother. With his wife, Diane, he ran a mixed-use farm. He slowly entered into farming retirement as he reached his early 80s. He enjoyed visiting friends and having discussions about various topics, farming included!
He will be very much missed.
A funeral service in memory of Zenon was held on Friday, Aug. 9, 2019 at First United Church, Melville, with the Rev. Brian Mee officiating. The organist, Shirley Blakley, led in the hymns, “Come to the Garden” and “In the Sweet By and By”. As a special tribute, K.D. Lang’s recording of “Hallelujah” was played. The family will be holding a private interment.
Those who so desire, may make memorial donations in memory of Zenon to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
